IN MEMORY OF DULAN COOPER FOLEY

My former father-in-law, Dulan Cooper Foley passed away today in Leitchfield, Kentucky. DC was Dulan's nickname, and he was the grandfather of my eldest son, Mark Alan Foley, who is now aged 30. Mark has been trying for the past couple of years to get the Medals that DC should have received for his service in the Army and for his heroic efforts at the Battle of the Bulge. DC and two of his brothers went to war together, and one of his brothers gave his life for our Country during war time.

I believe DC had about nine siblings, and was a hard working person after he got out of the Army, where he was employed by the Louisville newspaper, as a printer for years. DC was married to his first wife, Helen Cunningham Foley for about 22 years, I believe, and then later married his current wife, Nell Foley. This post is made on October 28, 2009. A few years ago, Ed Corson ran an editorial about DC Foley, and his Irish roots, as Mr. Corson, I believe attended church with Shirley and Arlo Richard, as Shirley is DC's sister. I am quite certain the editorial was written by Ed Corson. I wrote a letter in rebuttal to the Editorial that was published in the Macon Telegraph, praising DC and telling about my son, who was DC's only blood grandchild. I said that DC was no doubt proud of his only grandson being a Marine. I sent the copy of the letter to Mark, I believe. A lady called my office after the letter appeared in the newspaper, asking if I was the one who wrote the letter for DC, as I believe her husband was a member of his Army unit, and she said she was going to be sure and mail the letter to DC.

Even though, I have been divorced from Mark's father for nearly twenty years, and remarried and divorced again, I still have fond memories of DC. Of course, our relationship was not perfect, but what relationship is?

God bless.
